CORBIN, Ky. – Zachary Silver picked up the first win of the season for the Rams in his debut match at 184 at the Pepsi Patriot Open hosted by the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.).
Up from 165 last season, Silver defeated Tyler McDonald of Montreat College in sudden victory overtime 9-7. Silver next took on All-American Niko Perovic of Lindsey Wilson College and lost by fall. In his final match Silver suffered a technical fall to Cumberland's (Tenn.) J.T. Oldknow.
Two other Rams made season debuts, Sonny Stewart and Karon Smith. Stewart's first matchup was with #22 Nolan Cook of Truett McConnell, which resulted in a fall and an injury to Stewart, who was unable to continue in the tournament.
