BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University wrestling opened its Appalachian Athletic Conference slate with a 36-12 win over the University of Pikeville Bears, Friday evening at the Herb Sims Center.
The Rams got wins on the at from Zachary Silver, Bo Ice, and Stacey Wilson, and claimed forfeits in four other matches.
Silver started the evening with a 12-10 win at 174. Marcelo Gonzalez lost by fall to his Pikeville opponent. Sonny Stewart won by forfeit at 197 and Dalton Fillips lost by fall at 285. The Rams followed with three consecutive forfeit victories by Ajai Pai at 125, Drew Wilkinson at 133, and Ethyn Kimberlin at 141. The final two matches of the evening saw BU come out on top as Ice claimed a 17-11 win over Tagg Fry, and Wilson defeated Brandon Ruiz by fall.
Prior to the match Bluefield University and the wrestling program recognized and honored seniors Jaxon Bast and Roberto Rivero for their hard work and dedication to the program.
