Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's volleyball takes down Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. – Women's volleyball returned to the court to complete the 2020 season nearly five months after their most recent match. The Rams in grand fashion defeated the Appalachian Athletic Conference's top team, the Bryan College Lions, in five sets.
The Lions opened an early seven-point lead, but slowly Bluefield College climbed back in the match. On several occasions the Rams were within a point of tying, the last coming at 18-17. Bryan forged ahead at the end and took the opening set 25-20.
Bluefield College got its first lead of the match early in the second set and the two teams battled with neither getting more than a two-point advantage until late when BC pulled ahead by five, 23-18. The Rams took set two 25-19 to even the match at a game apiece.
Set three was close throughout but Bryan pulled away late for a 25-21 win. The fourth set followed the pattern of the previous three. The teams battled for each point with many ties until Bluefield built a four-point lead, 21-17. The Rams won set four 25-18 to force a deciding fifth set.
Set five was the most exciting of the night. The Rams went up 3-0 and Bryan tied at 3. BC then went on a 5-0 rally to lead 8-3. The Rams led 12-7 when Bryan mounted its final rally. BC held on and got the 15-12 win, to take the set and match.
Leslie Flores was in beast mode for Bluefield College as she had 24 digs and 17 kills. Jessica Wells had 13 kills and Aubri Whatcott 33 assists. Claire Fingerlin finished with 18 digs.
The Rams improved to 10-6 with the win, in a season where only conference opponents are on the slate.
"It was great to be back on the floor playing somebody other than ourselves. It was a little different with some people out, but we played a number of freshmen tonight and they stepped up to play well," said BC head coach Buddy Gallemore. "We made some adjustments that worked in our favor. I don't think that Bryan was at full strength either, but either way, when you're beating the number one team in the conference, or at least tied for first, it's a good win any day, especially on their home floor."
