Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women storm past CIU

BLUEFIELD - Women's basketball picked up a big AAC win Tuesday night at the Dome Gymnasium, downing the Columbia International University Rams 79-64.
CIU scored the first four points of the game before Kylie Meadows drained a three. Emily Breeding followed with a bucket to give BC the lead, a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the evening. The BC Rams went on a tear, outscoring CIU 16-8 the rest of the period to lead 21-12 after one quarter of action.
Bluefield continued its first-half dominance, outscoring the visiting Rams 25-14 in the second to take a 46-26 halftime lead.
CIU battled back in the second half, closing to within 10 points, but Bluefield held on for the double-digit conference win.
Meadows led Bluefield with 28 points on 10-of-13 shooting. She made both of her three-point attempts and was 6-of-7 from the free throw line. She also had six rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Tianna Crockett tallied 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field along with eight rebounds. Nialla Curtis tallied a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Tiyanna Scott added 10 points.
Bluefield shot a blistering 59% from the field in the contest, while holding CIU to 31%.
"I am really proud of our team. We have dealt with adversity off the court. We were shorthanded tonight and I was proud to see some players step up and make plays," said head coach Corey Mullins.
"Kylie (Meadows) was big for us, finishing around the rim and hitting some huge threes in the first half. I also felt like Tianna Crockett helped steady us when we needed a bucket. I was glad to see our defense step up and force them to take uncontested shots. Finishing the possession with w block out and limiting their second chances was also a key factor in the game."
The BC Rams had only eight players available for the contest. They return to action Thursday night at Tennessee Wesleyan.
