Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rams close out 2020 against Point

BLUEFIELD - The final game of 2020 calendar year saw women's basketball fall behind big early and claw their way back into the game before falling in AAC action to Point University 68-48, Saturday afternoon at The Dome.
Point was hot to start the game, rolling out to a 14-0 lead, and leading 26-8 after the first quarter. The Skyhawks held a 45-24 halftime advantage. The Rams fought back in the third quarter, closing to within 13 points of the lead before the visitors re-extended their lead and claimed the win.
Nialla Curtis collected a double-double to lead the Rams. Curtis had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Cierra Cook fired in 12 points and Kylie Meadows tallied 11.
Tierra Huntsman guided the Rams as Head Coach Corey Mullins was sidelined due to COVID protocols. She talked about the Point start, Curtis, and her first game on the end seat of the bench.
"Coming out I told them we were going to have to set the tone against a fast-paced team, and we did the opposite. We let Point come out and set the tone. I think that's where Point got their confidence and we lost ours. In the second half we started hitting shots and it got better, but that first half killed us," Huntsman said.
On Curtis, Huntsman said, "When she is playing to her full potential she's the best kid on the court, hands down, no matter who we are playing. It's one of the things we've got to instill in her, that we need her every possession on both ends of the court."
About her head coaching debut, Huntsman said, "It was exciting. I had nerves all week leading up to it. Once the ball tipped off it was like being a player again. I was in my element. What I think I need to learn is being able to adjust on the fly."
