Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rams can't overcome Bear attack

BECKLEY, W.Va. - Eighteen days after its scheduled season opener Bluefield College men's basketball team took to the court. Playing with only seven available players the Rams battled for a half, but then fell to the Golden Bears of WVU Tech 77-58 at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
The BC team had its 2020-21 debut delayed as a result of quarantines and isolations due to COVID-19. Playing with only half its roster, the Rams fought and held a 33-31 halftime lead. It remained close in the second half and the Rams trailed by only two, 54-52, with 7:16 to play in the contest. However, the final seven minutes proved to be fatal for BC. WVUT went on a 23-6 run to close the game and secure the win.
Jermiah Jenkins led Bluefield with 25 points. Jenkins was 5-for-9 in three point shooting. Stanley Christian had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
"We played with ony seven guys tonight and it wore us down," said Rams Head Coach Richard Morgan. "I thought we competed for 35 minutes. We've got to get more guys back so we can have more depth.
"I'd love to play them (WVU Tech) again when we are at full strength just to see where we really are. They are a good team. We just couldn't sustain it and couldn't come back."
The Rams were to open conference play Thursday at Columbia International University, but that contest has been postponed due to COVID-19 affecting the CIU team. BC is next scheduled to play its home opener, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 against St. Andrews.
