Brown, Cox lead Rams to victory on Senior Night

BLUEFIELD - Senior Cynthia Brown scored two goals, and Bella Cox added two more to lead women's soccer to a 4-2 win over Kentucky Christian University, Wednesday at the East River Soccer Complex on Senior Night.
Brown, a senior playing in honor of her grandmother who passed away last Saturday, scored the first goal of the game in the 30th minute and the Rams carried a 1-0 lead into the break. Brown's second goal came in the 47th minute on an assist from Cox. Cox put the Rams up 3-0 in the 48th minute, the assist coming from Kaylei Newman. KCU got a pair of goals from Aurie Coriell in the 84th and 86th minutes to pull with a goal of BC. Cox rounded out the scoring and gave the Rams breathing room with a goal in the 88th minute to make it 4-2, which was the final score.
The Rams had 13 shots on goal, a season high. Anna Flinchum had six saves.
"I aa delighted for the girls to get the first win of the season, especially on Senior Night," said BC head coach Michael Callaghan. "We had a lot of chances and we scored some great goals. I think we moved the ball well and put Kentucky Christian under a lot of pressure. We definitely deserved the win and only wish we could have kept the clean sheet, but we will hopefully bring the momentum into Saturday's match at Montreat."
Prior to the contest Bluefield College honored seniors Cynthia Brown, Abby Flinchum, Anna Fiinchum, Chelsea Ford, Abagail Key, Farah Schweers, and Jaime Vest. During the Senior Night ceremony, BC football player Michael Everett proposed marriage to Cynthia Brown, to the delight of family, friends and teammates present.
