BLUEFIELD – Women's volleyball claimed its first win of the season in a thrilling five-set match against Tennessee Wesleyan, Thursday night at the Dome Gymnasium 23-25, 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 15-10.
The Rams started out strong with a 6-3 lead. increased its lead to 12-6, their largest lead in the set. After TWU took a timeout, they came back for vengeance and closed the Rams lead to three, which made the score 17-14 and tied things at 17. After several ties the Rams lost the lead but forced a tie at 22. Tennessee Wesleyan went on to win the first set 25-23.
The teams exchanged the lead early and were tied and tying until BC pulled ahead 8-5. The Rams extended their lead to 14-10. The Rams maintained the lead and went on to win the second set 25-17.
Wesleyan took the early lead in the third set, but the Rams came back and took the lead, eventually going ahead by 10 points, 18-8. The Bulldogs closed the Rams lead down to four, 20-16, but BC won set three 25-18.
Bluefield led early in the fourth set and midway through led 13-8. However a late rally by Tennessee Wesleyan gave the Bulldogs the win 25-23.
In the fifth and final set the Rams came out strong and took an 11-6 lead and won 15-10 to take the match and claim their first win of the season.
Kassidy Holloway had a Bluefield career high 50 assists.
Adrianah Grajeda had 16 kills,
Taylor Southerland,
Gabby Rigsby, and
Leslie Flores each had 12 and
Katie Kendrick had 10.
Whitley Phipps had 18 digs.
Paige Fisher and
Leslie Flores both had 16 and
Kailee Kay had 11.

Buddy Gallemore said, "The streak is over, time to start a new one. They played with a lot of confidence tonight. Earlier in the season they would have laid down and I'm very proud of them."
