Women's volleyball falls to Point in four sets

BLUEFIELD – Saturday morning volleyball at the Dome Gymnasium saw women's volleyball fall in four sets to Point University.
The Rams won the first three points of the opening set off serves from Kassidy Holloway to take the early lead but the visiting Skyhawks quickly tied things at three. BC then moved ahead by six, 10-4 at which time Point called its first time out of the first set. The Rams' rally would continue and BC's lead grew to 14-5 on a Katie Kendrick kill. Point battled back and got to within three at 15-12, forcing the Rams to call time. The Skyhawks later drew even at 17 and took the lead 18-17. BC retook the lead and moved ahead by a pair of points The Rams went on to take the set 25-23, ending a 22 set string of losses dating back to Aug. 30 against WVU Tech.
Taylor Southerland's kill put the Rams on the board in the second set and drew them even. Point then scored five unanswered to pull away. Point won the set 25-12.
In set three Point built a six-point lead but the Rams cut it to one at 10-9. The Skyhawks rallied and went back ahead by four. The visitors went ahead by six and the Rams rallied to within three at 20-17. Point took the set 25-19.
Set four was closely contested from the beginning as the teams battled for each point. The Rams tied the game at 14 and took their first lead at 15-14. Point retook the lead and went on to take the set 25-22 and the match.
Kassidy Holloway led the Rams' charge with 34 assists and nine digs, while Paige Fisher added 19 digs and Kailee Kay chipped in with nine digs. Kendrick had 13 kills and Taylor Southerland had 10.
