Rams go overtime to sink Virgin Island Bucs

BLUEFIELD- Bluefield College Rams welcomed the University of the Virgin Islands to the Dome Gymnasium on a cold Monday night and claimed a 78-72 overtime victory. It was Bluefield's third consecutive victory and their eighth on the season against only one loss.

Ben Grove started of the game for the Rams with a three-point shot and Ty'qoun Reid right behind which made the score 5-0 Rams. UVI quickly made a comeback that advanced the score 5-4 Rams. Both teams exchanged two- and three-point shots that advanced the Rams to 13-8 before UVI tied the game at 14-14. The Rams took the lead again with two free throws and a three pointer by Jermiah Jenkins to put BC on top 18-14. UVI came back and tied the game at 18. This game sure was a nail biter. The Rams took back the lead by six points and UVI made a quick come back and took the lead 30-27, the first time UVI held the lead. At halftime the score was tied at 34.

To start the second half off, the Rams pulled ahead 37-34. With both teams exchanging shots, the score was tied at 42 again at 46. Both the Rams and University of the Virgin Islands had fought hard for all the points they received and UVI took back the lead at 56-47, their biggest lead all game of nine points. The Rams started to make a comeback which made the score 56-50, but UVI shut that down quickly and took a 10-point lead, 60-50. The Rams made numerous shots that made the score 60-59 and finally took the lead at 62-60. The score at the end of regulation was 64-64.

In overtime, UVI took the lead to with the Rams swiftly retaking the game's lead at 69-66. The Rams increased their lead to six points, 78-72. Through blood, sweat, and tears the Rams took a victory at the Dome Gymnasium 78-72.

Ty'quon Reid led the Rams with 22 points. Jermiah Jenkins had 15 and Brandon Shields followed with 11. Kobie Johnson and Harold Cardwell led both with UVI with 12 points. Quinton Bush with had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
