BLUEFIELD – Women's volleyball honored Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its annual Dig Pink Game and welcomed the University of Rio Grande to the Dome Gymnasium. Bluefield gained a three-set win over the Red-Storm, Tuesday night. The win snapped a five-game skid for the Rams.
The Rams opened a 4-1 lead in game one before Rio Grande rallied to tie at seven and take an 8-7 lead. BC then embarked on a 8-3 run to take a 16-11 lead and take control of the first game and force the Red Storm to use their first time out. The Rams extended their lead to 21-11 and after a second time out, the Red Storm scored five straight points forcing Bluefield to call time. The Rio rally continued as they pulled to within four at 21-17 before the Rams broke the string of points. Bluefield went on to take the first game 25-20.
Bluefield opened a 7-2 lead in the second game and pushed ahead 14-3. The Rams took game two 25-9.
As in the previous two games, the Rams grabbed the early lead, going up 4-1. Rio battled but BC moved ahead 12-5 before the visitors made a charge after a time out, closing to within three points on several occasions. The Rams took game three 25-18.
Kailee Kay had 12 kills and Katie Kendrick 11 to lead BC's attack, while Camry McCroskey had 30 assists. Paige Fisher had 16 digs.
