Box Score 4 BLUEFIELD - Coming off a season-opening Florida road trip where they won three-of-four games, the Bluefield College baseball team took to Bowen Field during an unusually warm February and split four games.
The homestand began with a 5-4 win against the University of Rio Grande on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Rams'
Nolan Soto had a walkoff hit in the bottom of the ninth that scored
Hunter Burnette with the game winning run.
Erik Williams hit a pair of home runs and finished the day 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while
Jordan Jackson was 2-for-3.
Edgar Reyes picked up the win in relief.
Sunday in game one Rio Grande's Trent Downs was perfect for six-and-two-third innings before Williams uncorked a solo home run. It proved to be the only hit BC got against Downs and the Red Storm as the visitors claimed a 6-1 lead.
Daniel Ruiz was tagged with the loss.
Game two of Sunday's twinbill saw the visitors from Ohio score five times in the fifth inning to take an 8-6 win over the Rams.
Caleb Newman suffered the loss in relief.Soto was 3-for-4 while
Joey Smith,
James Rangel and Jackson each had a pair of hits. Rangel knocked in two runs.
Tuesday night the Rams hosted crosstown rival Bluefield State and rolled to a 13-4 win, ending BC's two-game skid. The Rams scored in every inning except the second en route to the victory and had a season-high 19 hits.
Smith and
Bobby Mena each had three hits, while Williams,
Austin Browning, Rangel and
Xavier Salas had a pair of hits apiece. Williams connected for another home run.
Alex Haas gained the pitching victory.
The Rams will host Ohio Christian for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m., followed by a single game Saturday.
