Danae Cox and
Courtney Kendrick scored 11 points apiece and make clutch baskets and defensive plays to lead the Bluefield women to a 57-54 win over the Appalachian Athletic Conference's number two team, the Milligan Buffaloes, Wednesday night at the Dome Gymnasium.
Milligan grabbed the early lead and led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter. Bluefield clawed back in the second and at halftime the Buffaloes lead was only four at 30-26. Bluefield took command in the third and build a nine point lead 49-40 thanks to two long threes by Valeriya Lebedeva. The fourth saw Milligan charge back and the Buffaloes missed a shot with seconds left that would have tied the game.
Courtney Kendrick's rebound sealed the deal for Bluefield.
In addition to her 11 points Kendrick also had nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Cox hit three treys in the game while
Adrianne Goodlet and
Whitney Smith each finished with five rebounds.
Milligan, 17-9 overall and 13-4 in the AAC, fot 16 points from Sarah Robinson, 13 from Hayley Wyrics and Mackenzie Raizor had 10 rebounds.
Bluefield, 13-11 overall and 9-8 in the AAC, plays next on Saturday at Truett McConnell.
