Box Score 2 The Bluefield College softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games Sunday afternoon to Brevard College. The Tornadoes out-hit and out-scored the Rams in both games, winning 7-2 and 12-5.
BC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game one.
Kaitlyn Pennington led off with a single up the middle,
Eryn Haley reached on a bobbled ball, and
Michaela Carter was hit by a pitch. With bases loaded,
Morgan Sawyers singled to left field, earning an RBI but the lone run would be all the Rams could score. Brevard had a four run third inning and a three run fifth to put them up 7-1. BC answered with one run in the bottom of the fifth but that would be all the Tornadoes allowed for the remainder of the game. Haley doubled to center field, advanced to third on Sawyers' single to second base, and scored on
Baily Garin's double to left field.
Alexandra Bartley received the loss on the mound for the Rams and Sawyers paced the offense as she went 4-4 at the plate.
Between games, BC honored its two seniors on the team.
Morgan Stephens and
Kiki Jones were both honored on the field for thier team and all the fans in attendance to see. In game two, errors spelled doom for the Rams. Brevard scored five runs in the top of the first, while the Rams had four errors in the inning. The Tornadoes scored four more in the fifth and three in the seventh, accompanied by three more BC errors. The Rams did not go down without a fight though, as they scored in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. Haley got the loss in the circle for BC, and Sawyers again led the way, going 3-4 at the plate with two RBIs, while
Kristen Murphy went 2-4 with a RBI.
The Rams fall to 11-25 overall and 1-15 in the AAC. They will return to action Wednesday, April 6, as they host conference foe Montreat. First pitch is set to be thrown at 2:00 at Graham Recreation Park.
