Box Score BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Shawnee State (Ohio) Bears rallied in the game's final three innings and clawed their way to a 7-5 win over the Bluefield College Rams in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at Bowen Field.
Bluefield took the early lead and was up 5-1 after scoring three runs in the sixth. RBI singles by
Ryan Lawson and
Matt Ferreira, along with a sacrifice fly by
Nick Ratliff provide the runs in the frame and increased the Rams' lead.
SSU inched closer in the seventh, scoring three times thanks to a pair of Bluefield errors, to pull to within a run of the lead. The Bears took the lead in the eighth with a pair of runs and added an insurance run in the ninth.
Bluefield brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with two down, but a line out to right brought the game to an end.
Erik Williams and Ferreira led Bluefield's hitting attack with two hits apiece.
Shawnee State used nine pitchers in the game with Austyn Goodwin getting the win and Brandon Bonar the save.
Mike Tinucci, the third of four BC pitchers in the contest, suffered the loss.
Bluefield is now 23-25 on the season and take on crosstown rival Bluefield State, Wednesday evening at Bowen Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. It is the final non-conference game of the year for the Rams.
