The Rams softball team traveled to Grayson, Kentucky to take on Kentucky Christian University in a double-header on Thursday afternoon. BC dropped game one 4-0 before the Knights run-ruled them 13-4 in five innings in game two.
In game one, the Knights used four back to back hits to put two runs up on the board in the second inning. They added two more runs in the fourth inning after two defensive errors by BC and a timely hit from the Knights' lone senior. The Rams defense then proved to be strong enough to not allow another run to cross the plate. On the offensive side for the Rams, the team as a whole only had four hits in the game.
Alexandra Bartley went 2-3 at the plate while
Eryn Haley and
Michaela Carter each went 1-3.
Game two looked promising for the Rams as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning.
Kaitlyn Pennington led off the inning with a single, and a Knights error on
Morgan Sawyers' bunt gave BC runners at first and second. Pennington and Sawyers then executed a double steal to put both runners in scoring position. Another misplayed ball by the KCU defense allowed both runners to score and gave
Kena Denton two RBIs.
Morgan Stephens then singled to score Denton.
Megan Arrington walked and Carter reached on an error made by the shortstop.
Baily Garin walked with the bases loaded, allowing Stephens to score the fourth run for BC. KCU responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the second and from there, the Knights were in complete control of the game. KCU scored 13 runs on 12 hits in the game and BC only had three hits. Haley was 1-3, Stephens was 1-2, and Pennington was 1-1 with two walks.
The Rams are now 16-30 overall with two games remaining in the season. The team will travel to Brevard Friday, April 22nd for a double-header. The Rams will then play in their final home game of the season on April 25th as they will take on Bluefield State in the battle of the Bluefields. Game times for that are 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Graham Recreation Park.
