Rams Pound Out 26 Hits to Sweep Eagles

Thirty-nine runs were scored on the day between the Bluefield College Rams and the Alice Lloyd Eagles in a double header on Wednesday afternoon.  The Rams stole game one from the Eagles 5-4 before a scoring frenzy in game two resulted in the Rams winning 20-10.

In game one, Morgan Sawyers and Baily Garin had back to back singles to start the second inning, and Sawyers scored two batters later on Morgan Stephens' single to left to put BC up 1-0.  In the top of the fourth inning, Stephens collected two more RBIs as she hit a two-run homerun over the left field fence to extend the Rams lead to 3-0.  The Eagles cut the lead to one run in the bottom of the fifth as they got themselves a two-run homer over the center field fence.  Alice Lloyd would then take the lead in the sixth after putting up two more runs to make it 4-3 with the Rams down to their final three outs.  In the seventh, Kaitlyn Pennington doubled to right center and scored on Michaela Carter's single to right center.  Kena Denton followed with a single to right center to plate Carter and give BC the lead back 5-4 going into the home half of the inning.  Two strikeouts and a line out would seal the fate for the Eagles.  Alexandra Bartley got the complete game win for the Rams.  Pennington and Stephens both finished the game 2-3 at the plate.

Game two saw both teams combine for 27 hits and 30 runs scored in the game.  BC scored two in the first as Pennington and Eryn Haley singled, followed by a triple from Sawyers.  The Eagles responded with two of their own on another two-run homerun.  The Rams had a six run second inning, highlighted by Garin's two-run homer.  The Eagles would then use four hits and a walk to score four runs in the bottom of the second.  BC would not score any in the third and Alice Lloyd would again take advantage of a walk and three hits to score four more runs, putting them up 10-8.  After that, the Rams seemed to be in control of the game.  They would score one run in the fourth to cut the Eagles' lead to 10-9.  Then in the fifth, BC batted around and used three singles, three doubles and a sacrifice fly to put up six runs.  In the seventh, the Rams would use three hits and a few errors on the defense to tack on five more runs, making the final score 20-10.  Garin was 4-4 on the game with six RBIs, while Pennington and Carter went 3-6 at the plate.

The sweep puts the Rams at 16-28 overall on the season.  They will play again on Thursday, April 14th at Kentucky Christian.
