Box Score 2 The softball team faced off against Fayetteville State University in a double-header on Wednesday. The Rams split with the Broncos, losing game one 3-1 and winning game two 2-0.
In game one, the Broncos scored early, getting two runs in the first and one run in the second. After two innings of work,
Baily Garin settled in and kept the Broncos offense off balance and let her defense work behind her to keep FSU from scoring anymore. The Rams struggled with getting runners into scoring position until the sixth inning.
Kaitlyn Pennington led off the inning with a single and
Eryn Haley followed with a single of her own to put runners on first and second. Pennington and Haley then executed a double steal to put runners on second and third for the three hole hitter, Garin. Garin grounded out to the right side of the infield to get the Rams' sole RBI in the game. Haley moved to third and
Morgan Sawyers was hit by a pitch to make it first and third with one out, but a pop-up and a ground out ended the inning.
In game two,
Brienna Sparks put on another strong performance from the mound. She tossed the complete game shutout, striking out 13 FSU batters and only allowing one hit. For the Rams offense,
Michaela Carter led off the third inning with a double down the left field line and later scored on a Garin single. In the top of the seventh,
Morgan Stephens singled and moved over to third on two balls that got away from the Broncos' catcher.
Ali Bartley then singled to score Stephens.
The Rams are now 4-6 overall and 0-2 in AAC play. The team travels to Southern Virginia University Friday March 4th. Game times are set for 4:00 and 6:00 p.m.
