Box Score 2 BC's softball team traveled to West Virginia Tech on Saturday and got their eighth win on the season after splitting with the Golden Bears. The Rams came up short in game one losing 6-4 before defeating the Golden Bears 6-5 in game two.
Tech jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after a solo homerun from Skylar Connelly. The Rams answered in the top of the second inning as
Alexandra Bartley scored on a
Megan Arrington single and then
Kaitlyn Pennington blasted a homerun to left field to score herself and Arrington, putting the Rams up 3-1. The Golden Bears scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and two more in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 6-3 over BC.
Morgan Sawyers led off the sixth inning with a triple to right field and scored on
Morgan Stephens' sacrifice fly, but that would be the last run BC's offense could produce in the game. Bartley received the loss on the mound for the Rams.
The Rams came out on top in game two, scoring six runs off of 13 hits.
Eryn Haley scored the first run of the game on
Kristen Murphy's single to left field in the top of the first inning; the Golden Bears responded with one run of their own in the home side of the inning.
Kiki Jones scored in the top of the second on Pennington's double to center field; West Virginia Tech scored two in the bottom of the third to go up 3-2. In the top of the fourth, Stephens doubled to leadoff the inning and scored two batters later on
Michaela Carter's double down the left field line.
Baily Garin doubled to start the fifth inning and later scored on an infield error by the Golden Bears, and then Stephens scored on Jones' single up the middle, putting the Rams up 5-3. Tech did not take any time tying the game back up at five after answering with two runs of thier own in the bottom of the fifth. The final run of the game came in the top of the seventh after Sawyers singled, moved to second on Murphy's sacrifice bunt and then scored on Bartley's single to right field. Garin earned the win in the circle for BC. Pennington and Carter both finished the game going 3-4.
The split puts the Rams at 8-12 overall and 0-4 in the AAC. West Virginia Tech moved to 6-6 on the year. BC will return to action in a conference contest Monday, March 14th, taking on Union at home. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:00.
