Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Rams downed by Royals in straight sets

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- The Rams fell victim to a hot Eastern Mennonite men's volleyball squad on Friday evening as the Royals downed Bluefield 3-0 for their fourth-straight sweep.

The Rams (3-11) were paced by David Gianesin's eight kills, but the Rams couldn't overcome multiple big rallies from the hosting Royals (9-5).

In the first, EMU took a 7-1 lead. Bluefield slowly trimmed the lead back to 13-11, but the Royals raced away for the 25-15 victory.

Eastern Mennonite doubled up Bluefield 12-6 in the second and never looked back en route to another 25-15 win in set two.

Bluefield was able to gather an early advantage in the third, 5-4 thanks to many EMU miscues and a kill from Gianesin. But, EMU bounced back with a 7-0 rally and continued momentum for the 25-17 victory.

Bluefield registered a .350 hitting percentage in game two, but only hit at a .145 clip for the match. After Gianesin, Isaiah Williams, Daniel Williams and Matt Epperson added four kills apiece. Isaiah Williams claimed 14 assists.

At the net, the Rams out-blocked EMU 7.5 to 3. Daniel Williams claimed a game-high four block assists. Daniel Griffin, Isaiah Williams and Chase Craycraft each tallied three block assists. Griffin tallied six digs to lead Bluefield.

EMU was paced by Scott Brigham's 15 kills, helping the team post a .308 hitting percentage.

The Royals utilized the service game to their advantage by tallying 11 service aces, while the Rams did not tally any but had six service errors.
