BLUEFIELD, Va. -- The Bluefield College men's tennis team claimed a pair of wins this week, defeating both William Peace University (9-0) and Shaw University (5-4) on Tuesday during a span of five matches in four days.
After losses to West Virginia Wesleyan (2-7) and Barton (0-9), the Rams rebounded for their first win of the year, a 9-0 blanking of William Peace.
Bluefield sailed through the win over the Pacers, surrendering just six games on the day. Each doubles tandem won by an 8-1 margin to take a commanding 3-0 lead. The Rams continued to roll in singles, as No. 1
Markel Aramberri, No. 2 Lochlan Kitche, No. 4
Chas Stonestreet and No. 5
Hussan Muzaffer all won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Carlton Tugman won by a 6-0, 6-1 margin in No. 3 and
Luke Lilly completed the complete sweep at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2.
The Rams also squeeked out a 5-4 win over Shaw University to close Tuesday's action.
However, in the week's finale, Bluefield was swept by No. 24-ranked Mt. Olive (NCAA DII).
Bluefield returns to action on March 18, hosting Union College at 2 p.m. in its first Appalachian Athletic Conference match of the year.
