Box Score BLUEFIELD, Va. - The Bluefield College women's basketball team opened Appalachian Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon against the Point Skyhawks at the Dome Gymnasium and the visiting Skyhawks pulled away in the second half to gain a 73-58 win.
Three Rams scored in double figures, led by
Maryah Mazyck with 13 points.
Danae Cox added 12 before fouling out in the fourth period and
Shelby Key dropped in 10.
Whitney Smith had a team-high six rebounds and Mazyck pulled down five boards.
Courtney Kendrick dished out five assists and tallied eight points along with a steal.
Point, who moved to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in the AAC, hed a nine point lead at the end of the first quarter. Bluefield charged back and at the break the Rams were dwon 37-30. The Skyhawks out-scored the Rams 36-28 the final two periods to reach their final margin of victory, which was their largest lead of the contest.
Point's Alexia Manning led all scorers with 34 points and was one of only six Skyhawks to register in the scoring column. Vanessa Calhoun scored 16 and Dereese Owens added 15. Three others scored in single figures.
The Rams, 3-3 overall and 0-1 in league play, host Columbia College in an AAC contest, Tuesday evening at 5:30.
