BECKLEY, W.Va. – Tennessee Wesleyan College was ranked No. 2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference preseason women's soccer poll. Wednesday night at the Paul Cline Soccer Complex in Beckley, the Bluefield College Rams took on the Bulldogs and when the final horn sounded Bluefield stood in the winner's circle with a 1-0 win.
A hard-fought battle throughout, the game's lone goal came in the 44th minute, seconds before the halftime break when Whitney Browning dribbled to the front of the goal, shot and scored.
Bluefield's Brandi Anderson had eight saves in goal. TWC out-shot BC 11-6 in the match, with eight of the Bulldogs shots coming in the final 45 minutes. Tennessee Wesleyan's Taylor Young had five saves.
With the win Bluefield moved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. Tennessee Wesleyan fell to 4-5-1 in all games and 3-2 in the AAC.
Bluefield takes to the road for a match with Bryan College, Saturday.
