BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield College women's basketball team dropped its second-straight Appalachian Athletic Conference contest, falling to Milligan College 66-54 at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse, Saturday afternoon.

Milligan (4-13, 3-6 AAC) pounded the glass in the victory, taking a 55-37 advantage in rebounding. Twenty-two of those rebounds came on the offensive side, leading to an 11-4 edge in second-chance points.

Bluefield (6-11, 4-6 AAC) was led by
Whitney Smith's 16 points, despite fouling out with nearly six minutes of action remaining.
Maryah Mazyck added 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, notching her second double-double in the last three games.
Shelby Key rounded out BC's leaders with a 10-point afternoon.

The Buffs were led by a career high from Hayley Wyrick, as the sophomore went 8-for-19 from the floor and 9-for-12 at the line for 28 points. Chelsey Weddle added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

BC opened up with a quick 5-0 lead, but Milligan's first five buckets were from long range to put the Buffs back in front, 15-10 with 14:05 remaining in the first half.

Milligan's first-half lead went to as many as seven, 27-20 with 6:47 remaining, with a two-plus minute drought following for both teams.

A 5-0 run for BC cut the deficit to two as the first half wound down, but Milligan added one more hoop before intermission for the 29-25 lead.

The hosts opened with a five quick points in the second half to push the lead to nine. Bluefield made its deficit five on multiple occasions with baskets from Smith and Mazyck, but an 8-1 rally from Milligan upped their advantage to 51-36 with 11:55 remaining.

BC was able to trim the lead to 10 on a three-point play from
Adrianne Goodlet with 6:24 remaining, but could get no closer the rest of the way. A 9-2 rally earned the hosts their largest lead of the night with 4:00 to go, as they cruised to the 66-54 victory.

Bluefield closed the night shooting 19-for-57 (33.3%), to Milligan's 24-for-64 (36.9%). The Buffs knocked down eight triples on the day, while BC had four—three of which came from Smith.

Bluefield is back at the Dome on Sunday afternoon, hosting Washington Adventist University for a 2 p.m. start. Bluefield defeated the Shock 48-46 in its third game of the season.
