PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. – For the second-straight week the Bluefield College baseball team picked up a Sunday Mid-South Conference doubleheader sweep, as the Rams knocked off (RV) Shawnee State 14-4 and 12-4 at Branch Rickey Park.

The Rams runaway win in game one was bolstered by a six-run ninth, which extended a four-run lead to 10. Shawnee State forced extra innings in the series finale with two runs in the seventh, but Bluefield responded with an eight-run eighth inning to secure the Sunday sweep and 2-1 series victory.

Tyler Lundgren (4-for-5), Chris McCollister (2-for-4) and Kahlin Villines (2-for-4) led the way in game one, each tallying three RBIs. Jacob Wright (3-for-4) and Sawyer McLamb (2-for-2) scored four and three times, respectively.

Bluefield levels its Mid-South Conference mark at 10-10 with the pair of wins, while their overall mark moves to 27-12. Shawnee State drops to 25-20 overall and 11-9 in MSC play with Sunday's defeats.

Game 1
Bluefield led from start to finish in the first game, as a leadoff walk to Zac Russell-Myers led to a 1-0 advantage following a Lundgren RBI single.

A two-out single from Villines in the second made it a 3-0 BC lead, after Wright led off the frame with a walk and McLamb reached on a single.

A Daniel Copeland sacrifice fly and a McCollister single gave each plated runs for a 5-0 BC lead in the fourth, while a Tyler Timmer double in the fifth added one more tally to the scoreboard and earned the Rams a 6-0 advantage.

The Bears jumped on the board in the bottom of the fifth, as back-to-back walks to begin the inning led to two runs.

McLamb singled and McCollister provided a sacrifice fly in the seventh to make the advantage six once again, 8-2.

A two-run home run from Todd Queener in the seventh once again closed the Bears' deficit to four, but a six-run ninth from Bluefield opened up the game and led to the 14-4 final.

The Rams hammered out six hits in the frame, but were also aided by four errors from Shawnee State.

Game 2
The Bears grabbed the 1-0 lead in the first with an unearned run.

Bluefield was held scoreless until the third, when Timmer drove in Villines who tallied a one-out double. Jacob Schober singled to drive in Lundgren—who reached on a walk—and give the Rams a 2-1 advantage.

Three singles to start the bottom of the fourth squared the game at 2-2, but a fielder's choice and a 4-6-3 double play got the Rams out of the jam.

BC responded in the next frame, plating two runs on four hits. Singles from Wright and McLamb both drove in single runs to get BC a 4-2 advantage.

The Rams looked to add insurance runs in the seventh, but stranded three base runners.

Shawnee State took advantage of the opportunity in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs to send it into extras.

However, the Rams once again came up with a big inning, plating eight runs on six hits. Shawnee also committed one error in the inning. A Lundgren single and a Wright double each plated two runs. Tyler Rome added another RBI single while Villines provided a bases-clearing double to score three and make it a 12-4 advantage for BC.

Cory Niten came on in the bottom half, allowing one hit and holding the Bears scoreless to complete the doubleheader sweep.
