BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield College softball team was held off in a pair of contests, Saturday afternoon, as visiting Rio Grande picked up 2-0 and 5-4 victories.

Game One
Rio Grande's starting pitcher Jenna Jones owned game one as she nearly hurled her second-straight no-hitter. Jones no-hit bid was broken up with two out in the bottom of the seventh, as
Morgan Stephens tallied a single.

The RedStorm managed to post single runs in the first and third innings. A double and a single did the damage in the opening frame, while a double, stolen base and groundout made it 2-0 for the visitors in the third.

BC starter
Brienna Sparks only allowed six hits on the afternoon, striking out seven and walking three.

Jones struck out four and walked none as she earned the win.

Game Two
In the finale, both teams placed a four on the scoreboard in the third inning. A Rollins homerun off BC's
Aline Uehara made it 1-0, RedStorm. After back-to-back walks, a double and a single opened the visitors' lead to 4-0. A strikeout closed the inning.

BC answered back in the bottom half with four runs on five hits.
Kasey Holcomb started things with a single, but was thrown out trying to score on a
Natasha Smith double.

After Uehara drew a walk, a Stephens single plated BC's first run.

A single from
Kristen Hylton scored one, while a
Kiki Jones single plated BC's final two runs.

The RedStorm tallied the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth. Kuhn doubled and advanced to third on a groundout. She then scored after an off-target throw from
Ali Bartley.

Jones came in to pitch the final two innings for the RedStorm, allowing just one hit.

Bluefield returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Southern Virginia University. The first game is slated for 2 p.m.
