Softball drops MSC pair vs. Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- Bluefield softball hit the road once again on Monday, and dropped a pair of Mid-South Conference games against University of the Cumberlads, 3-1 and 11-3.

Keisha Lynch had a two-hit game in the opener, while Aline Uehara posted a pair of hits in game two, but each would be the only Lady Rams to tally multiple hits in their respective games. BC totaled four hits in game one and five in game two.

Brienna Sparks pitched the complete game in the opener, allowing three runs on eight hits. She struck out two and walked two.

Anna Davis started game two for BC, but the Patriots tallied four runs in the opening frame and Uehara was brought on in relief.

Uehara pitched the remainder of the game, giving up seven runs with the game concluding in the bottom of the sixth with UC taking an eight-run lead, 11-3.

Game 1
In game one, the Patriots tallied a pair of runs in the third and one in the fourth.

Bluefield tried to rally in its final at bat, as Uehara provided a one-out double and was drove in by Lynch with two out. But, a strike out wrapped up the game.

Game 2
Bluefield scored first in game two, as back-to-back singles from Kasey Holcomb and Ali Bartley opened the frame. Holcomb stole third and scored on a passed ball.

However, UC tallied four runs in the bottom half, taking advantage of five hits and a pair of BC errors.

Bluefield pulled within one with a two-run third inning, with both runs coming on a UC error.

Cumberlands then took advantage in the later innings, posting a single run in the fourt, two in the fifth and its final four runs in the sixth for the 11-3 victory.

Bluefield returns to action on Thursday, hosting Surry Community College in a scrimmage.
