PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. – The Bluefield College women's basketball team couldn't slow down the scorching Shawnee State University Bears Saturday afternoon, as the hosts took a 104-59 win in Mid-South Conference action.

Bluefield drops its third-straight game to fall to 12-13 overall and 6-10 in MSC play. Meanwhile, the Bears won their sixth-straight contest, moving to 16-11 overall and 9-7 in conference action.

Janee Simmons tallied 14 points in the loss, followed closely by
Asia Wheeler's 13. Freshman
Whitney Smith hit a trio of three-pointers en route to 11 points on the afternoon.
Maryah Mazyck led BC on the glass with eight rebounds.

Four Bears tallied double-figures, led by Priscila Santos' 28 points. Alannah Sheets added 25 and Catrice Mitchell put up 23 more. Diane Abbady added 13 to round out SSU's top scorers.

Mitchell and Santos led the host's rebounding efforts with 11 and 10, respectively, as the Bears held a 54-45 edge on the boards—22 of which came on the offensive end.

Smith's first three of the contest made it 13-9, SSU, before the Bears reeled of one of several big runs against BC. This 10-0 rally pushed the score to 23-9, and they kept the offense moving to open up a 36-15 lead with under six minutes to play in the opening half.

SSU held a 43-25 lead at the break, as BC shot just 20.5% in the opening 20 minutes of action.

The Bears continued to roll in the second half, shooting 55.3% (21-for-38) and putting up 61 points en route to the 104-59 win.

Bluefield shot better in the second half (11-for-26), but had 18 turnovers over the final 20 minutes and totaled 28 for the game.

Bluefield steps out of conference on Monday for a 5:30 p.m. game at West Virginia Tech. They return to MSC play on Thursday, hosting St. Catharine College.
