COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A second-half goal from senior
Braley Freire wouldn't be enough to advance the Bluefield College women's soccer team, as the hosting No. 6 seed Columbia College used a hat trick from Ashley Tanner for a 3-1 win in Tuesday evening's Appalachian Athletic Conference opening round contest and end the Lady Rams' season.
Bluefield closes the year with a 4-10-2 mark, while the Fighting Koalas advance to quarterfinal action of the AAC Tournament on Saturday, facing Tennessee Wesleyan College.
Ashley Tanner scored two goals in the first half to earn the hosts a 2-0 lead at the break, before completing the hat trick in the second half. Her sister, Amber Tanner, provided two assists on the evening, while Bethany Blanton added one helper as well.
Columbia held a 19-12 edge in shots, with the shots on-goal number being 11-7 in favor of the Fighting Koalas.
Brandi Anderson made eight saves on the evening to close out her freshman campaign. Kat Yahnke made six saves to help her team advance in postseason play.
Lindsey Pelletteri claimed the assist on Freire's marker, connecting a pair of seniors for the team's sole goal of the night. The goal was Freire's sixth of the season, while Pelletteri tallied her third helper.
Pelletteri also recorded four shots on the evening, three being on frame. Freire had four shots on the night as well, with two on goal.

Yaira Mota each had a shot on frame as well.
