TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. -- A first-half goal scored by junior
Jessica Newman lifted the Bluefield College women's soccer team to its first victory of the season, Friday evening, as the squad picked up a 1-0 win over host Toccoa Falls College during the Eagles' Homecoming game.
"We played pretty solid, I'm really pleased with the team's effort tonight," stated Head Women's Soccer Coach
Tom Price. "We stayed composed, and had several additional opportunites in the second half, but caught the crossbar once and Toccoa's keeper did a good job stopping a lot of shots on goal."
The marker was Newman's second of the season while senior
Braley Freire provided her first assist of the season on the score.
Bluefield's record moves to 1-8-1, as the team logged its first non-conference game of the season after two prior non-Appalachian Athletic Conference games were cancelled due to inclement weather. Toccoa Falls drops to 6-7-1 with the defeat.
The Lady Rams now look to gain momentum as the season begins its push toward the postseason, with each team in the AAC getting a chance at postseason play. BC's next two contests take place at the East River Soccer Complex, hosting Ohio Christian at 5 p.m., Thursday and University of the Cumberlands at 2 p.m., next Saturday.
