BLUEFIELD, W. Va. –
Pip Pattison netted the game winner in the 88
th minute of action, Wednesday afternoon, to earn the Bluefield College women's soccer team its home opening victory over St. Andrews University, 4-3, at the East River Soccer Complex.

The game winning play began with action on the left side of the field, where Braley Friere sent a pass to
Jessica Newman out near the sideline. Newman then served the ball to the middle where a cutting Pattison completed the sequence and gave BC a 4-3 advantage.

While St. Andrews put one more shot on goal, Bluefield closed out the game for their fourth straight win to open the season. It's the program's first ever 4-0 start and its longest win streak on record. St. Andrews dropped to 2-2 with the loss.

Scoring began quickly for Bluefield as
Whitney Browning netted her sixth goal of the year just 1:15 into action. Browning, the reigning Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, once again became tied for the Mid-South Conference lead in the category with her marker.

Bluefield then gained a 2-0 advantage in the 15
th minute with Pattison's first goal of the night. The senior outraced the St. Andrews keeper to a ball at the top of the box and quickly found the back of the net.

With less than a minute remaining in the opening half, Tori Burkey pulled the visitors within one with their first goal of the game.

Newman's fourth goal of the season gave Bluefield a two-shot advantage once again in the 60
th minute. Scores from the Knights in the 71
st and 73
rd minutes knotted the game, but Pattison's late tally then served as the difference maker.

Bluefield took the win despite being outshot 18-14, but did post more shots on goal with a 10-8 advantage.

Kayla Richardson made five saves in net for the victors, while Jessica Griffith made six saves on the afternoon.

St. Andrews also held the advantage in corners, with an 8-3 edge in the set opportunities.

Bluefield faces its first Mid-South Conference contest of the year on Saturday, as they travel to face Georgetown College at 3 p.m.
