An offensive explosion from Bluefield led the Rams to a road win over Emory & Henry on Wednesday afternoon.

Bluefield hit 22 hits and five home runs on its way to a 15-8 win over the Wasps.

Trevor Martin got the Rams on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo home run to left field lead off the game.

Zach Russell-Myers singled in the top of the second inning. After he advanced on a double by Kaleb Long, Will Simpson brought him in on a groundout to give Bluefield a 2-0 lead.

The Rams kept the scoring going in the top of the third inning when Jacob Wright brought in Martin with a single to left field. Jamie Blackwell brought in another run a couple batters later on a groundout to shortstop.

Emory & Henry got its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Wright blasted a solo home run in the next half inning to push the Bluefield lead to 5-1. The Rams scored one more run in the inning on an RBI-single by Blackwell to score Chris Rosa.

The Wasps scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 6-6, but Will Simpson quickly put Bluefield back on top with his first home run of the season in the next half inning.

Emory & Henry briefly took its first lead in the bottom of the sixth inning at 8-7. Bluefield answered with three consecutive singles before a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Kaleb Long knotted the game back up at 8-8.

Kahlin Villines put the Rams ahead for good with a two-run homerun to leftfield in the top of the eighth inning.

Bluefield padded its lead in the top of the ninth inning when Rosa worked a bases-loaded walk. Blackwell promptly cleared the bases with a grand slam to left field put Bluefield ahead 15-8.

Justin Lykins earned the win on the mound for Bluefield to improve to 2-2 on the season in seven appearances. Russell-Myers pitched picked up a six-out save, his second of the season.

Kyle Long got the start for Bluefield and pitched a pair of scoreless innings.

The five home runs by Bluefield are the highest this season.
