Career night from McDaniel helps BC past E&H

Jade McDaniel led BC with 18 points, Thursday evening.

Box Score The Bluefield College women's basketball team defeated Emory & Henry by a 72-40 margin Thursday evening at the Wasp's John Rutledge King Center, led by a career high 18 points from Jade McDaniel.

Janee Simmons added 12 in the victory which improved BC to 5-4, while Asia Wheeler and Monique Robson added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Wheeler added a game high 12 rebounds for the double-double. Teqa McNeal tallied four of the team's 14 steals.

McDaniel shot 5-of-9 from the field for the evening, including a 3-of-6 mark from beyond the arc. She was also 5-of-6 at the free throw line.

Emory & Henry (1-7) was led by Karina Farr's 11 points as the only double-digit scorer for the Wasps.

Bluefield never trailed in the game and started the scoring quickly. Robson began the game by hitting a jumper, while back-to-back buckets from Simmons then a layin by McNeal made the score 8-1, Lady Rams, after 4:16 of play.

Over the ensuing five minutes, BC reeled off a 15-2 run to grab a 20-point advantage, 23-3, with 9:35 to play in the first half.

The visitors' advantage hung around the 20-point mark, as BC took a 41-23 lead at the break.

Bluefield continued to control the game throughout the second half en route to the 72-40 win.

The Lady Rams recorded their best shooting performance of the season, going 30-of-58 (51.7%) from the field. Emory & Henry could only manage a 12-of-55 (21.8%) shooting clip on the evening.

Despite Bluefield having 25 turnovers to 24 for the Wasps, BC converted 19 points off turnovers while E&H could only tally five.

Bluefield held a marked advantage in the paint, holding a 48-35 rebounding margin and a 38-16 advantage in points in the paint. Fifteen offensive rebounds led to 21 second chance points for BC.

The Lady Rams return to the court tomorrow evening, looking to avenge their early season home loss to Virginia Intermont. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. in Bristol, Va.
