LEBANON, Tenn. – No. 1 seed and No. 6 ranking Cumberland University knocked off No. 8 seed Bluefield College, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament play.

After falling 5-0 to Cumberland during the regular season, the Lady Rams closed the gap in Saturday's 3-1 loss.

"I'm so pleased with our team's work rate and their adjustments to our tactical changes," stated head coach
Tom Price. "They bought in to what we wanted to do and we competed hard the whole game."

Cumberland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 24
th minute of play as Shauna Gilpin found the back of the net. She beat BC keeper
Kayla Richardson by sending home the goal after a deflection.

Neither team scored during the remainder of the opening half, allowing the Bulldogs to take a 1-0 advantage into the break.

Gilpin struck again early in the second half, sending in a crossing pass from Rhianne Parsons in the 51
st minute.

Braley Freire fired a shot on goal just seconds later, but CU's Lindsay Kitson made the save to hold the game at 2-0.

Taylor Nay then made the CU advantage 3-0 by converting on a free kick just outside the box following a BC foul.

Pip Pattison had a shot shortly after, but was off target with the Lady Rams' final attack of the game.

Despite Cumberland holding a 27-3 advantage in shots, BC kept the game tight. Richardson notched eight saves for the Lady Rams.

Cumberland had eight corner opportunities, while BC had just the one in which they converted their goal.

"The hard work from the regular season has paid off and we still have the opportunity to compete in postseason play next weekend against Union University," Price expressed.

Having qualified for regional postseason play within the National Christian College Athletic Association, the Lady Rams will trek to Jackson, Tenn., next Saturday to face Union University—a time is to be confirmed. The final four teams remaining in the Mid-East Region will compete at the home field of highest remaining seed.
