Single season wins record matched by women's soccer

The Lady Rams clinched their 9th victory with a 3-0 win over Hollins.

ROANOKE, Va. – A 3-0 win over Hollins University earned the Bluefield College women's soccer team its ninth win of the season to match the program's record for victories in a single season. The program's mark was set last year and bested the previous record by two wins (2008).

Bluefield controlled the first half and outshot the hosts by a 12-1 margin. Seven of the Lady Rams' 12 shots were on target, but Hollins keeper Autumn Johnson made all six of her saves in the game during the first 45 minutes.

Pip Pattison converted BC's sole goal of the opening half at the 31:21 mark for her sixth tally of the season.

Bluefield then converted two of its four shots for goals in the second half to pull away for the 3-0 victory.

Victoria Doyle gave BC a 2-0 advantage in the 57th minute with her second goal of the season.

Nina Cundiff sent home the final score of the game in the 75th minute of play. The goal is the freshman's second of the year, with Lyndsey Pelletteri notching her first assist of the season.

The Lady Rams held a 16-7 advantage in shots and took seven corner kicks for the game, while Hollins had none.

All four of Hollins' shots on frame were saved by senior keeper Kayla Richardson, who earned her fourth shutout of the season and ninth of her BC career.

Bluefield plays its final regular season game on Saturday, hosting No. 5 Lindsey Wilson College at 1 p.m.

A win would lock up the team's inclusion in the Mid-South Conference Tournament, while a loss would place its playoff chances in the hands of the Pikeville-Georgetown game, Saturday evening. Should the Rams lose and Pikeville win, Bluefield would not get into the eight-team MSC tournament.

Bluefield has already guaranteed postseason play by having an overall record over .500, earning them a spot in the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament.
