Box Score

BLUEFIELD, W. Va. – Goals in the 83rd and 86th minutes from Pip Pattison and Whitney Browning pulled Bluefield College all-square with visiting Shawnee State University, Saturday afternoon, but two 10-minute overtime periods could not decide a victor as the squads finished the game 2-2 in Mid-South Conference women's soccer action at the East River Soccer Complex.

BC is now 5-5-1 and 0-4-1 in MSC matchups this season and is 2-1-1 in overtime games this season. With the tie, Shawnee State moves to 6-3-1 overall this season and 1-3-1 in MSC games.

Shawnee State struck first on an Allison Nagle goal, as the forward converted following a corner kick from Bethany Ward in the 12th minute.

The first half finished 1-0 in favor of the visiting Bears, who owned a slim 7-6 lead in shots for the first 45 minutes. Both teams only had two shots on goal.

The Bears and Rams both came out firing in the second half, but it would be the Bears that converted first to take a 2-0 lead. A cutting Schuyler Jones headed in the goal, with Elizabeth Abbott serving the ball from the left side.

SSU recorded three more shots in a three minutes span looking to build its lead, but two saves from BC's Kayla Richardson and an off-target shot held the Bears at 2-0.

However, over the final 23 minutes BC stole the momentum and outshot SSU 8-3, converting two scores to tie the game. Bluefield attacked in transition multiple times, while SSU's keeper Emily Kuehn made a couple of point-blank saves. She also received help from her teammates, as a Pattison shot was denied on the goal line from an SSU defender.

Pattison then converted the first marker with 7:05 remaining in regulation to pull BC within one, 2-1. Freshman Whitney Browning carried the ball up the right side and fed Pattison near the top of the box, where the senior fired the ball to the back of the net.

Just a few minutes later, with 4:01 left in the second half, Pattison returned the favor to her teammate, feeding Browning for the goal.

SSU attempted two shots in the final few minutes, but the game remained tied and headed to overtime.

With momentum on its side following a strong close in regulation, Bluefield continued in the first overtime period. The Rams fired five shots during the period, forcing three saves from SSU keeper Emily Kuehn. The Bears only had one shot, another save from Richardson.

Bluefield recorded the sole shot in the second overtime period, as the teams concluded in a tie.

BC held a 24-18 advantage in shots and owned a 14-9 margin in shots on goal. Shawnee State had six corner kicks, while BC just had three on the afternoon.

Richardson finished with seven saves for BC, while Kuehn had 12 for the game.
