The 2009 Bluefield College Baseball team achieved a remarkable milestone by winning the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Baseball World Series, held from May 20-23 at Prasco Park and Legacy Field in Mason, Ohio. Under the leadership of Coach Mike White, the team ranked #4, made an impressive run through the tournament, culminating in a thrilling 5-3 victory over the top-seeded Malone University in the championship game.
This season, the Bluefield baseball team showcased their talent, finishing 7th in Earned Runs Allowed with an impressive average of 3.132, and ranking 12th in Earned Run Average at 3.950. Offensively, the team excelled with 23 total triples, placing them 11th nationally, and averaging 0.434 triples per game, ranking 14th. They boasted an overall batting average of .341 and an impressive slugging percentage of .528, racking up 357 total RBIs. Additionally, their fielding percentage of .961 demonstrated their defensive prowess, nearing perfection.
The team concluded the season with an overall record of 39-14 and a conference record of 18-9. Individually, standout performances included Devin Good, who made a significant impact with 35 stolen bases, ranking him 7th nationally. Good also appeared in several other individual rankings, including 8th in total steals (39 attempts) and 12th in both stolen bases and attempts per game. Tony Singleton contributed to the team's offensive firepower with 6 triples, placing him 15th in the nation.
The 2009 Bluefield College Baseball team not only secured a championship title but also solidified their legacy in the college's athletic history, showcasing a blend of talent, teamwork, and determination.
