BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University Rams softball dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader against Bryan College Lions softball at Graham Rec Park.
Game One: Bryan 9 – Bluefield 1
Bryan struck first in the opening inning, taking advantage of a fielding error before plating a run on a sacrifice fly to grab a 1–0 lead.
The Lions broke the game open in the second inning with three runs, highlighted by a bases-clearing double to center field that pushed the advantage to 4–0.
Bluefield answered in the bottom of the second when Chloe Dillow connected on a solo home run to left field to cut the deficit to 4–1.
Bryan added two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to extend the lead to 9–1 and close out the contest.
Dillow led the Rams offensively with her home run, while Alondra Reeves, Alexis McDuffie, Jada Jordan, and Mackenzie Hood each recorded a hit.
Isabella Smith started in the circle for Bluefield and worked five innings.
Game Two: Bryan 14 – Bluefield 5
Bryan again jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to build a 4–1 lead. Bluefield got on the board in the bottom of the first when Dillow launched her second solo home run of the day to left field.
The Lions extended their lead with a five-run fourth inning, but the Rams responded in the bottom half. Alexis McDuffie singled and later scored, while Jada Jordan delivered a two-run single to right field to trim the deficit to 9–4.
Bluefield added another run in the fifth as Dillow walked and eventually scored following a Bryan error.
Bryan pulled away late, however, adding two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth, including a three-run homer that sealed the 14–5 final.
McDuffie led the Rams with three hits and a run scored. Dillow finished with a home run, three runs scored, and two walks, while Kenidy Harris and Karter Fortune added hits. Jordan drove in two runs off the bench.
Sara Lang started in the circle for Bluefield, with McDuffie and Katie Barrett appearing in relief.
Bluefield will return to action Monday with a road doubleheader against Fayetteville State beginning at 2 p.m.
