Game One: CIU 7 - Bluefield 3
The Rams struck first in the second inning when Juan Almonte delivered an RBI single to score Sean Cherry and give Bluefield a 1–0 advantage.
Bluefield added to the lead in the third inning as Jordan Ramsey drove in a run with a single, extending the Rams' lead to 2–0.
CIU was held in check by Bluefield starter Nick Duncan through much of the game. Duncan worked into the seventh inning and allowed just three runs while keeping the Rams in front for most of the afternoon.
The Rams added their third run in the sixth inning. After reaching base earlier in the frame, Josh Holland came around to score to give Bluefield a 3–0 lead.
Offensively, Bluefield recorded eight hits in the contest. Ramsey led the way with two hits and an RBI, while Almonte finished with two hits and a run driven in. Cherry, Chris Johnson, Cody Crafton, and Michael Royston each added hits for the Rams.
CIU rallied in the seventh inning to take the lead before adding insurance runs late to secure the 7–3 victory
Game Two: CIU 9 – Bluefield 3
Columbia International completed the series victory with a 9–3 win in the finale Saturday afternoon.
CIU jumped out to an early lead with a solo home run in the first inning before breaking the game open with a four-run third inning. The visitors added three more runs in the fourth to extend their advantage to 8–1.
BU responded in the bottom of the third inning when Almonte came around to score after reaching base earlier in the frame.
The Rams added another run in the fourth when Josh Holland delivered an RBI single to right center to score Nick Stergiou.
Bluefield plated its final run in the sixth inning as Dylan Dotson singled through the left side to bring home Crafton.
Crafton led the Rams offensively with a 3-for-4 performance including a double and a run scored. Dotson recorded an RBI single, while Holland also drove in a run for BU.
Ryan Cowell started on the mound for the Rams and worked four innings, while Raymond Smith Jr. provided three innings of relief.
Bluefield returns to action Tuesday when the Rams host Bluefield State at Bowen Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
