BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University softball team fell in both games of a Wednesday doubleheader against Bluefield State at Graham Rec Park.
Game One: Bluefield State 6 – Bluefield 3
BU jumped out to an early lead in the opener, scoring twice in the second inning. Olivia Bailey drew a walk and Mackenzie Hood followed with another free pass before Karter Fortune reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Delana Loflin delivered an RBI single through the left side, and Lauren Jackson followed with an RBI single to give the Rams a 2–0 advantage.
Bluefield State answered with a run in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 3–2 lead. The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when Alondra Reeves doubled down the left-field line and later scored on an error.
The contest remained tied until the seventh inning when Bluefield State plated three runs to pull ahead 6–3.
Reeves finished with a double and a run scored, while Jada Jordan added two hits for BU. Loflin and Jackson each recorded an RBI in the loss. In the circle, Isabella Smith worked five innings before Mackenzie Hood pitched the final two frames.
Game Two: Bluefield State 6 – Bluefield 2
BSU scored two runs in the first inning and added another in the third before the Rams got on the board in the second. Jada Jordan doubled to left-center and later scored on an RBI single from Hood to cut the deficit to 2–1.
The visitors extended their lead with another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. BU answered in the fifth when Chloe Dillow launched a solo home run to left field.
Dillow led the Rams with a homer, while Jordan and Loflin each doubled. Alexis McDuffie recorded a hit as well for BU.
Sara Lang started in the circle and Alexis McDuffie worked four innings in relief.
Bluefield will return to action Saturday when the Rams open AAC play with a home doubleheader against Bryan beginning at 1 p.m.
