Bluefield Loses Heartbreaker at WVU Tech

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Bluefield Rams built an early lead but were unable to hold off a late rally, falling 10–9 to WVU Tech Tuesday afternoon.

Bluefield came out swinging, taking a 1–0 lead in the first inning on a solo home run from Jordan Ramsey. The Rams extended their advantage in the second, plating three runs behind RBI hits from Josh Holland, Ramsey, and Michael Royston to move ahead 4–1.

BU continued to add on in the third inning. Grayson Surratt drove in a run with a groundout before Holland followed with an RBI single, stretching the lead to 6–1.

After several scoreless innings, WVU Tech shifted the momentum in the sixth. The Golden Bears erupted for seven runs on seven hits in the frame to take an 8–6 lead.

BU responded in the eighth inning. Ramsey reached base and Royston followed with a hit before Sean Cherry launched a three-run home run to center field, putting the Rams back in front 9–8.

WVU Tech answered again in the bottom half, tying the game at 9–9 on a sacrifice bunt. In the ninth, the Golden Bears completed the comeback with a walk-off single.

Ramsey led the Rams offensively, finishing 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs. Royston also recorded three hits, while Cherry drove in three runs with his eighth-inning home run. Surratt and Holland each added two hits as BU totaled 15 in the contest.

Ryan Cowell started on the mound, with Daniel Pritchard providing 3.1 innings of relief. Noah Burtner was charged with the loss.

Bluefield returns to action Friday when it travels to Union Commonwealth for Game One of a three-game series, with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
