WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Bluefield University softball team dropped both games of a Wednesday doubleheader at Carolina University at Wilson Park.
Game One: Carolina 5 – Bluefield 4
BU jumped ahead early, scoring four runs in the second inning to take a 4–1 lead.
After Kenidy Harris and Chloe Dillow worked walks to open the frame, Alondra Reeves moved the runners over before Maddy Wood reached on an error that brought home two runs. Natalee Victores followed with a single, and Lauren Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead to 3–1. Delana Loflin later added a sacrifice fly as Bluefield capitalized on Carolina miscues.
The Rams were limited to four hits in the contest, including a triple from Dillow and a double by Reeves.
Isabella Smith was strong in the circle early, allowing just one run over four innings while striking out seven. Carolina rallied in the sixth to tie the game and plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out RBI double to secure the 5–4 walk-off win.
Game Two: Carolina 8 – Bluefield 0
In the nightcap, Carolina struck for three runs in the first two innings and pulled away with a three-run fourth and two-run fifth in an 8–0 decision.
BU was held without a hit in the five-inning contest. Dillow drew a walk in the first inning for Bluefield's lone baserunner.
Sara Lang went the distance in the circle, working four innings against a Carolina lineup that collected 10 hits.
With the losses, Bluefield moves to 1-5 on the season.
The Rams return to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Northwestern Ohio beginning at 12 p.m.
