Bluefield Falls in AAC Doubleheader at Johnson

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The Bluefield Rams baseball team dropped both games of Friday's road doubleheader against nationally-ranked Johnson.

Game One: #18 Johnson 11 – Bluefield 1

BU struck first in the opening inning but could not keep pace as Johnson pulled away for the win.

Josh Holland singled and later scored on an RBI single from Cody Crafton to give Bluefield a 1–0 lead in the top of the first. However, Johnson responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added two in the third before breaking the game open with four runs in the fourth.

Michael Royston led BU offensively with two hits, while Chris Johnson and Holland each recorded a hit. The Rams finished with five total hits in the contest.

Nick Duncan took the loss after three innings of work. Brent Avery and Jason Maldonado combined to provide relief out of the bullpen.

Game Two: #18 Johnson 5 – Bluefield 1

Game Two was a tighter contest early before Johnson used a three-run fifth inning to create separation.

Johnson manufactured a run in the first on a sacrifice fly before Bluefield answered in the fifth. Crafton was hit by a pitch to start the inning and later scored when Jordan Ramsey singled to left field to tie the game at 1–1.

Johnson regained the lead in the bottom half of the fifth with three runs and added another in the sixth to secure the sweep.

Ramsey accounted for three of BU's four hits in the nightcap, finishing 3-for-3 with an RBI. Dylan Dotson added a hit, and Crafton scored the lone run.

Ryan Cowell started and allowed one run over four innings. Noah Burtner worked two innings in relief.

Bluefield will return to action Tuesday with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Alice Lloyd.
