Bluefield Sweeps Carolina in Conference Opener, 3-0

BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University men's volleyball team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday night inside the Dome, sweeping Carolina University in straight sets, 25-8, 25-14, 25-15.

With the win, the Rams improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Bluefield controlled the match from the opening serve, hitting an impressive .492 as a team with 33 kills on just three errors in 61 total attacks. The Rams never trailed in the opening set, cruising to a 25-8 victory behind a .476 hitting percentage. They followed that up with a .474 clip in set two and closed the match with an even stronger .524 mark in the third.

Mason Lloyd led the offensive charge with eight kills on 13 swings, hitting .538 while adding three service aces and four digs. Kaden Porter was nearly flawless, posting five kills on nine attempts for a .556 hitting percentage. Kemani Riley added five kills without an error (.500), and Kari Williams contributed six kills and a team-high 11 digs in a well-rounded effort.

BU's depth was also on display. Richard Cisneros recorded three kills on three attempts, while Mamadou Dieng and Jamareous Ryan each added three and two kills, respectively. As a team, the Rams totaled eight service aces and 12 total blocks, keeping Carolina out of system throughout the night.

Benedict Somes orchestrated the offense with 22 assists and two service aces, helping the Rams hit above .470 in all three sets.

Defensively, Bluefield finished with 29 digs and limited Carolina to a -.060 hitting percentage for the match.

The Rams will look to carry the momentum into Friday when they travel to Cleveland, Georgia, to face Reinhardt at 1 p.m.
