CLEVELAND, Ga. – The Bluefield University men's volleyball team competed in a pair of matches Friday at the Harris Athletic Complex, falling to Reinhardt in four sets before dropping a five-set heartbreaker to Truett McConnell.
In the opening match of the day, Bluefield (2-4, 1-1) took the first set from Reinhardt, 25-22, behind a strong .407 hitting percentage in the frame. The Rams were paced offensively by Kari Williams, who finished with 17 kills on a .353 clip, and Mason Lloyd, who added 13 kills and three service aces.
Reinhardt responded by taking the next three sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-23) to secure the 3-1 victory. Bluefield totaled 42 kills and 40 digs in the contest, with Benedict Somes dishing out 35 assists. Richard Cisneros was active at the net with six total blocks, while Mamadou Dieng contributed three blocks of his own.
Later that evening, the Rams pushed Truett McConnell to the brink in a five-set battle.
BU claimed the first set, 25-20, and forced a decisive fifth after taking set four, 25-23. Lloyd delivered a standout performance with 21 kills on a .395 hitting percentage, while Williams added a match-high 23 kills and three service aces. As a team, the Rams recorded 55 kills and 64 digs in the match, with Somes tallying 42 assists to direct the offense.
Despite the strong effort, Truett McConnell edged out the fifth set, 15-8, to take the match 3-2.
Bluefield will look to bounce back Saturday when they face Life University in Cleveland, Georgia, at 2 p.m.
