Bluefield Drops Non-Conference Road Game at Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – The Bluefield University football team fell to Presbyterian College, 76-3, in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Hose (4-0) started fast, building a multi-score lead in the first quarter and carrying a 27-0 advantage into the second frame.

BU's (1-2) best drive of the afternoon came at the start of the second quarter. Beginning at their own nine-yard line, sophomore running back Rayjuan Traynham broke off a 52-yard rush on second down to move the Rams into plus territory.

A third-down penalty by Presbyterian then gave BU a fresh set of downs at the 12-yard line. A three-yard completion from senior quarterback Ethan Cash to Traynham set up a 26-yard field goal by junior kicker/punter Isaiah Bandy.

The field goal capped an eight-play, 65-yard drive and marked Bluefield's lone scoring possession of the afternoon.

Cash finished the game with 75 passing yards on 13 completions, while freshman quarterback Javarion Brown saw the first snaps of his college career, completing one pass for 10 yards. Traynham paced the ground game with three carries for 55 yards. Freshman wide receiver Marlin Haywood led the receiving corps with five catches for 30 yards, while senior wide receiver Jevon Myers added one reception for 18 yards.

Defensively, sophomore linebacker Charles "CJ" Howard shared the team lead with nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. Junior safety Koda Counts also recorded nine stops.

Bluefield returns home to face Virginia-Lynchburg at Mitchell Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m.
