Bluefield Clipped by Johnson & Wales

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Bluefield University men's soccer team fell to Johnson & Wales–Charlotte, 3-0, on the road in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats (2-3-1) struck early, netting a pair of goals within the game's first four minutes.

Senior defender Kendell Britt logged the Rams' (1-4) first shot of the game in the 16th minute, which was also on target.

BU earned a trio of corner kicks beginning in the 26th minute but was unable to capitalize. Junior forward Juan Soto registered a shot in the 33rd minute, but the Rams entered halftime trailing 2-0.

Bluefield turned up the pressure to start the second half, generating a pair of corner kicks and additional shot attempts from Soto and Britt, but the Johnson & Wales defense held firm.

BU created three more chances in the closing minutes, but the Wildcats added a late goal to secure the 3-0 victory.

Soto, Britt, and freshman midfielder Anthony Alvarado led Bluefield with two shots apiece. Junior goalkeeper Stanton Cerda recorded five saves in 53 minutes of action.

The Rams return home to host Pikeville September 17 at 6:00 p.m.
