BLUEFIELD, Va. – The Bluefield University women's volleyball team swept Sweet Briar in straight sets in a non-conference match at The Dome Gymnasium Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Rams improve to 3-0 on the season, while Sweet Briar drops to 0-4.
Set 1
The Vixens scored the first two points of the match, but BU answered with 19 straight to seize control. Senior middle hitter
Camille Gonzalez Rivera sparked the run with three kills, while junior middle hitter

Sienna Vitelli closed the frame with two kills to secure a 1-0 lead for the Rams.

Bluefield jumped out to a 6-1 lead behind service aces from junior outside hitter
Chesed Russell and Gonzalez Rivera. Leading 9-6, a Russell kill sparked a 10-1 run that included three kills from Sasson and two from senior defensive specialist

Sydney James delivered her first ace as a BU Ram, and Torres sealed the frame as Bluefield took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-11 win.

Jaden Bradley combined for nine service aces to open the third set, giving BU an early 11-1 advantage. Junior right side/middle hitter
Ella Gawellek added two aces midway through, while Wigg, Lechuga, and Gonzalez Rivera each contributed kills. Sasson tacked on two more aces before a Sweet Briar attack error closed out the sweep, 25-5.
Match Stats
As a team, the Rams served 31 aces, surpassing their previous mark of 28 against Sweet Briar earlier this season. Eleven different BU players recorded at least one ace, led by Lechuga with six. Gonzalez Rivera and Sasson paced the offense with six kills apiece. The Rams hit .370 as a team while holding the Vixens to -.421. Lechuga also dished out a match-high 12 assists.
Bluefield opens Appalachian Athletic Conference play on the road at Bryan College September 19, with first serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
