Bluefield, VA – Bluefield University is excited to announce that Coach Keven John has been named Head Coach of the Rams Women's Volleyball program. John will also continue in his current role as Head Coach of the Men's Volleyball team, bringing more than 30 years of coaching experience and a proven track record of building successful, high-character programs.
"I'm thrilled that Coach John has agreed to take on leadership of our Women's Volleyball program in addition to his ongoing work with our Men's team," said Corey Mullins, Vice President of Athletics and Student Development. "From the very beginning of this search, Keven came forward with a vision grounded in competitive excellence and spiritual leadership. His experience, energy, and understanding of Bluefield's mission made him the clear choice to guide both programs. Keven and his wife Dana have already made a meaningful impact on our campus community, and I'm excited to see where his leadership takes us next."
Coach John recently completed his second season at the helm of the Rams Men's Volleyball program, which he successfully relaunched in 2023. In just two seasons, he led the team to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament semifinals for the first time in school history. Under his guidance, the program has produced multiple All-Conference honorees, including a First Team selection.
John's coaching career spans NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, as well as the NAIA and NJCAA levels. He has worked with USA Volleyball and has earned numerous accolades, including three Conference Coach of the Year honors. His teams have secured wins over 16 nationally ranked opponents and achieved multiple Top 20 national and Top 10 regional rankings. Over the years, he has coached four All-Americans and 23 All-Conference athletes, consistently emphasizing both competitive growth and personal development.
The Bluefield University Women's Volleyball team is coming off a strong 2024 campaign, finishing 19-13 overall and 14-7 in AAC play. The team reached the conference tournament and returns a solid core of nine players, along with a promising group of new recruits from high schools, junior colleges, and four-year institutions.
Senior defensive specialist
Eledy Torres shared the team's enthusiasm and sense of stability heading into the new season.
"We have a sense of relief and peace going into the summer—not only knowing who our coach is, but already having that connection with Coach John on and off the court. I am more than happy to know that we are going to be in the hands of someone we trust and who already knows us."
The team echoed Torres's sentiment, expressing excitement about building on the momentum of last season under familiar and confident leadership.
"Thank you to Vice President Mullins and the Bluefield University administration for this opportunity," said Coach John. "It's an honor to lead both the men's and women's programs at a place that values faith, family, and excellence. I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place and continuing to serve our student-athletes with passion and purpose. Go Rams!"
With a committed roster, a united team culture, and a veteran coach at the helm, Bluefield University Volleyball is poised for an exciting new chapter.
