Game Recap: Softball |

Rans Earn First Conference Win in Doubleheader vs. KCU

Bluefield, VA.- The Rams showed grit and determination in their conference doubleheader against Kentucky Christian, bouncing back from a tough game one loss to secure their first conference victory in game two.

Game 1

Despite a valiant effort, the Rams fell 4-1 in the opener. Kentucky Christian capitalized on early opportunities, scoring three unearned runs in the first two innings. A solo home run in the fifth extended their lead, but Bluefield refused to back down.

In the bottom of the fifth, Alexis McDuffie delivered a spark with an electrifying triple to right field, bringing Lauren Jackson home for Bluefield's lone run of the game. While the Rams struggled to string together hits against KCU's pitcher S. Lawyer, their defense and pitching remained strong. Hallie Cox put in a solid performance in the circle, allowing just two earned runs on two hits across seven innings while forcing 14 flyouts.

The Rams kept fighting throughout but couldn't overcome the early deficit. However, their determination would soon pay off.

Game 2: Bluefield Secures First Conference Win with Offensive Surge

Game two saw a different Bluefield team take the field, as they roared back with a 6-3 victory to earn their first conference win of the season.

After trailing 1-0 in the fourth, the Rams' bats came alive. Chara Wootten smashed a double to drive in Chloe Dillow, tying the game. Moments later, Madison Blankenship singled to left, allowing Wootten to cross home and give Bluefield a 2-1 lead.

Though Kentucky Christian responded with two runs in the fifth, the Rams answered right back. Kenidy Harris reached on an error, allowing Alexis McDuffie and Lauren Jackson to score, flipping the lead back to Bluefield. The Rams weren't done yet—Kerstin Buchanan came through clutch in the sixth, driving in two more runs with a single to right field to seal the 6-3 win.

Pitcher Ali Glover was dominant on the mound, going the distance and allowing just five hits and three earned runs while striking out three in a complete-game effort.

Looking Ahead

With their first conference win under their belt, the Rams are ready to get back to work to prepare for their next conference match-up vs. Union College on Friday, April 4th.
